Training and Support Services to Organizations
Children Connections Care promotes family and community-based care for all children. Reintegration and family reunification is one of the avenues to achieve that aspiration. It is child centered with priority on family care environment. This is part of our wider child protection systems, taking a right –based approach, following the principle of ‘do no harm.’
According to the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children – A United Nations Framework 2009, “Reintegration is the gradual, result oriented and supervised processes of helping a child (re) adjust, (re) settle and (re) adopt the life in his/her family and community system. This process needs to
consider child’s age, needs and evolving capacities, as well as the cause of the initial separation.”
This is very different from repatriation, which means returning a child back to their family or community without considering any underlying reasons for their separation from their family or the capacity of that family to safely care for the child.
This is why we offer training and support services to organizations preparing to embark on the reintegration process. We have over 20 years’ experience handling Child reintegration and Family reunification both at the
programming and offering technical guidance to organizations. This process is now crucial because of the move towards family and community care of vulnerable to institutionalized children.
Our support may include some of these interventions:
1. Short Introductory Session to Decision makers – The necessity and overview process of reintegration to get senior decision makers to buying, own and support the process.
2. Awareness / Sensitization training – One day preparation for an organization embarking on the reintegration journey.
3. Reintegration process full training – including demonstration of case management, Child/Family assessment and recommended steps.
4. Reintegration planning process – To come up with a customized road map.
5. Reintegration Implementation navigation support. Here we come alongside an organization as they implement the agreed reintegration plan. This may include design of new social support programs to support families where children have been reintegrated.
